Check whether an email address can receive mail. Free, no sign-up

What this checks, and what it cannot

It checks that the address is written as an address, that its domain exists, that the domain has mail servers (or, without an MX record, an address of its own) that can be found in the DNS, and that it has not said it takes no mail. It also says when the domain is a well-known throwaway-address service.

It does not ask the mail server whether the mailbox exists. That question, an SMTP probe, gets the asking server blocklisted, and Gmail, Outlook and most large providers say "yes" to every address so that nobody can find out which ones exist. The only sure test is to send a message and see whether it bounces.

Questions about this tool

Can this tell me whether the mailbox exists?

No, and no honest tool can without sending to it. Large providers accept mail for every address at first and only bounce it later, and asking a server directly gets the asker blocklisted. This tool checks everything the DNS can tell: that the domain exists and can receive mail.

Why does a valid address say it cannot receive mail?

Its domain has no mail servers in the DNS, its servers have no address, or it has a null MX, which says it takes no mail. Check the domain with the MX, SPF & DMARC Checker; if it is your domain, its MX records need fixing.

What is a disposable address?

An address at a service that gives out throwaway inboxes, often readable by anyone and emptied within hours. Our list holds only the best-known such services; a domain not on it may still be one.

Can I check a whole list of addresses?

No. This page checks one address at a time, a few a minute, for a person checking an address by hand. It is not a list-cleaning service, and it sends no mail to any address.
