About this answer

The address above is the one this site's server saw your request come from. Through a VPN or a proxy, it is that service's address, not your own connection's.

This page does not store your address — not in the site's database and not in its cache. As on almost every website, the web server may note it in its access log.

Questions about this tool

Why is this different from the address in my device's settings?

Your device usually has a private address on your home or office network, such as 192.168.1.20. Your router or your internet provider shares one public address between everyone behind it, and that public address is the one websites see.

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 addresses are four numbers, like 203.0.113.7, and there are not enough of them to go round. IPv6 addresses are longer, written in hexadecimal with colons. Many connections have both, and each website is reached over one or the other.

Why does the page not show my IPv6 address?

Your browser reaches this page over one connection, IPv4 or IPv6, and this server sees only that one. Showing the other needs a second address of this site that answers over only the other protocol; where there is none, or your connection has no IPv6, the page says so instead of guessing.

Can a website tell where I am from my IP address?

An address shows which provider you connect through, and some databases guess a rough area from it, often wrongly. This page does not look up a location.

Is my address kept?

This page does not store it in the site's database or its cache, and the browser details are worked out in your browser and never sent to us. As on almost every website, the web server may note the address in its access log.
