Punycode Converter
Convert Bangla and other international domains to xn--. Free, no sign-up
What Punycode is
The DNS was built for English letters, digits and hyphens only. A name in Bangla or any other script is kept in the DNS in an ASCII form that starts with xn--, called Punycode, and browsers turn it back into the script you typed.
This converter works on this page alone: it asks nothing of the outside world.
Questions about this tool
What is xn--?
It marks a part of a name that is written in Punycode. বাংলা becomes xn--54b7fta0cc, and a browser that sees xn--54b7fta0cc shows বাংলা.
Which form do I put in my DNS or hosting panel?
The xn-- form, unless the panel says it takes the name as people read it. The DNS itself only ever holds the xn-- form.
Is there a Bangla domain ending?
Yes, .বাংলা, which is xn--54b7fta0cc in the DNS, run for Bangladesh like .bd. A Bangla name can also be registered under some other endings, such as .com.
Why does my browser show the xn-- form instead?
Browsers show the xn-- form for a name that mixes scripts, or uses letters that look like others, because that is how a fake of a well-known name is made. This page warns you when a part mixes scripts.
